THE MAN
AND THE MONSTER
aka: El Hombre Y El Monstruo |
1958
- Mexico
Horror |
| This Mexican
horror classic is another wrinkle on the Faust story. It tells the story
of a concert pianist, who desires international fame so he sells his soul
to the devil. Satan's price: whenever the pianist plays a particular selection,
he turns into a monster. After a string of brutal murders perpetrated by
this musical Jekyll/Hyde, he is foiled by a quickwitted concert master.
When the orchestra strikes up the fatal tune, the pianist goes through
his slavering metamorphosis before a packed audience. Abel Salazer produced,

NIGHT
OF THE BLOODY APES
aka: La Horriplante Bestia
Humana; Gomar the Human Gorilla; Horror and Sex. |
1968
- Mexico
Horror |
| A "classic"
in the bizare world of Mexican cinema! This film is a gory, misogynist
exercise in rape, wrestling and surgery from Mexico's premier father-son
"Z"-movie team Rene Cardona and Rene Cardona, Jr. Essentially a remake
of the elder Cardona's Doctor of Doom, laced with more sex and violence.
José Moreno stars as a brilliant but misguided surgeon who tries
to save his ailing son by transplanting an ape's heart into his chest.
The results are slightly strange, creating a hairy gorilla-man with a wrestler's
physique who loves nothing more than to rape women and rip men's faces
off. The only one who can put a stop to this horrific rampage is a masked
female wrestler!. And if the gore-murders aren't exploitative enough for
you, the Cardonas spliced in actual open-heart surgery footage to fully
illustrate the Moreno's handiwork! |

and Raoul Martinez star in this quirky blend of comedy and horror. A very
early entry in the Mexican horror genera. Director Miguel Delgado later
became a prime mover of the Santo series of the 60's |
