THE
LAST WOMAN
aka: L’ULTIMA DONNA
Another outrageously pessimistic film from the Italian madman;
director Marco Ferreri. This film chronicles the conflicts between
a man's romantic urges and his sexual desires has he tries to
accept feminist ideals. In the story, Gerard is an engineer whose
wife has just left him for feminist reasons. Gerard who has custody
of his nine-month old son does what he can to raise him alone
until he meets the beautiful Valerie. The relationship between
the two begins well enough but eventual Valerie discovers how
self absorbed and one dimensional Gerard is. Eating sleeping and
having sex is all he desires out of life. Frustrated Valerie threatens
to leave. Gerard panicked at the thought of being left by yet
another woman he promises Valerie he will change. This change
is more then Gerard can handle. Equipped with an electric knife
Gerard destroys what he believes is the source of his problems.
