Ruggero Deodato's gory cannibal movie, one of several to come from Italy in the after the release of of THE MAN FROM DEEP RIVER (1972). Ivan Rassimov's plane crashes in the Amazon jungle, and he is soon captured by a cannibal tribe, that tries to kill him — until a young native woman (Lay) frees him for sex and pays with her life. Of coarse there is real mondo footage of animals devouring each other to go along with the fake horrors such as Lay being gutted and having her body cavity filled with hot coals. Fueled by the profits of this film, Deodato returned with the more extreme Cannibal Holocaust a few years later.
