Potters Bluff, Rhode Island, may seem like an innocent little town to the casual visitor but it has a dark and deadly secret that even the local sheriff, Daniel Gillis, is unaware of. Late one evening the nightmare begins. It starts off innocently as strangers or people passing through are killed. Fortunately, the town has an excellent undertaker, William G. Dobbs, who can easily handle the sudden deaths. Gillis soon begins to investigate the deaths and discovers clues that lead to many of the local inhabitants, including his own wife!
