AVERRE
VENT’ANNI Aka: Being Twenty; To Be Twenty. The beautiful Gloria Guida and Lilli Carati star as Tina and Lia, two
young girls who meet
and realize they have a lot in common. They are both “young, beautiful
and pissed off!” so they decide to pair up and enjoy the simplicity and
freedom of the hippy lifestyle in 1970’s Italy. They hitchhike their way
to Rome to find Nazariota’s commune; a place to stay for free and have
all the sex they want… or so they think. When they arrive they discover
that they are expected to pay for lodging, or at least work for it. Not
having the desire to become cleaning women, the girls are forced to use
their bodies to earn their keep as Nazarota decides to prostitute them
as payment. This only angers the girls even more, who want sex, but on
their own terms.
Life at the commune gets even worse as the police bust in and arrest
everyone. A brutal interrogation begins at police headquarters. The cops
believe the Nazariota’s commune is a home for drug attics and political
radicals. The commune is shut down and Tina and Lia are forced to hit the
road again now even more angry. As they make their way back home they stop
off in a small town café
for something to eat. They try to make the best the day as they discover
a jukebox and dance together in a very provocative manner. Watching them
are a gang of thugs who are angered by the two beauties as they move their
sexy young bodies, and ignore the advances of the members of the gang.
Tina and Lia sense it is time to leave as the men become more aggressive.
As they attempt to find their way back to the highway they are surrounded
by the gang. What follows is one of the most brutal scenes in Italian cinema.
After 90 minutes of sexual comedy, director Fernando Di Leo smashes us
in the face with cold reality as the girls we have grown to love are debased
in a manner you will never forget.
